SEASON 2026 AHEAD
Comets Policies for Growing our Sport
Netball is an exciting sport, always evolving. Once a safe place for women to play sport, increasingly change has to provide a different future for netball to grow and be competitive with other sports. We are volunteer driven which should enrich our sport with talent freely given by women for the most part who bring career skills to our organisation.
To grow beyond our traditional boundaries Comets do not support:
-
negative policies created to discourage specific volunteers, or
-
policies & behaviours that prevent robust debate
Comets club promotes:
-
transparency in our dealings
-
open decision-making constructed & presented with a breadth of accurate information to prevent destructive policies
-
welcoming everyone, embracing diversity, providing opportunities, regardless of background, gender, age or lifestyle
-
challenging stereotypes and courage in dealing with bullies
-
supporting new versions of netball, Mixed teams, Mens, Walking Netball

July Good News Month
Netball 2025 season is well into winter with Saturday games played under blue skies & sunshine, only a little rain, & the right amount of chilliness. All reasons players love outdoor netball!

Lovely Ladders - 5 of our 7 teams are sitting in the top 4 of their grade ladders, teams 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7. Everyone is very excited but not complacent. Games 11-14 follow a big break where traditionally “the wheels fall off” for many teams. Games have not all been won easily, so nothing is a given for the final series.

New National Umpires Badges – congratulations to our new National ‘B’ Badge awarded to Bridget Boyd and a National ‘C’ Badge awarded to Stephanie Davison. Both well earned!

Hart Senior State Titles - the Comets Connection
5 players - 3 in MWNA State U15s team Matilda Whitehead, Jessa Harpur and Tahlia Stone and 2 men from MWNA Men’s Div 1 team, Grant McLeod and Kyan McDougall.
4 umpires - Lisa Davison, National ‘B’ Badge, Comets Umpires' Convenor, umpired and mentored. Haydn Mackay, National ‘A’ Badge, mentoring. Katie Langsford, National ‘B’ Badge, who we recently welcomed back to our club, also umpired
1 Coach - Colette Longley Advanced Coaching accreditation, again coached her recently formed men’s team into 4th place in Div 1 against a stronger group than in 2024.

Final Series Ahead
With 4 weeks before the final series, teams looking to capitalise on their hard work, need reliability, amazing communication, and maintenance of fitness. Good luck helps too!
